This thesis discusses the question of the process of poetic creation in the opus of José Ángel Valente (1929-2000), internationally renowed Spanish poet and essayist of the post-war generation. The first part is concerned with the process of poetic creation, based on the writings of those 19th and 20th century poets who shaped new artistic directives in poetry, as well as the understanding of the creative process itself. The focal question of this part is how these poets understood the process of writing poetry. The thesis aims to determine whether there are parallels among the views of the aforementioned authors and how the concept of poetic creation developed at a period which is of crucial importance for the contemporary understanding of poetic language. The second part of the thesis consists of a brief introduction of the work of José Ángel Valente, an author predominantly unknown to Slovenian literary space, and continues with applying the question of the process of writing poetry onto Valente's work. The aim was to determine Valente's answers to these questions and how his work fits into the broader context of the development of the notion of the process of writing poetry. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether it si possible to recognize common feature in the development of views on the process of writing poetry.
