In the practice of teaching Slovenian as a foreign language, it appears that students do not acquire the use of the adversative conjunction pa sufficiently, and therefore they often use it inappropriately or avoid using it. Textbooks for Slovenian as a second or foreign language offer some examples with the adversative conjunction pa, but they do not dedicate much attention to explaining its usage. This article systematically demonstrates the use of the adversative conjunction pa and offers some suggestions for teaching based on the language context in which this conjunction is used in Slovenian.
