The thesis investigates the morphological process that is referred to as lexical blending. Even if this minor word-formation process is increasingly popular, it is still not clearly defined and limited.
The first part of the thesis presents an examination of defining characteristics of blending and blend words, which is followed by a comparison between blending and other word-formation processes that have similar properties. The last section of the theoretical part examines different classificatory studies in English and French. The second half of the thesis is of a practical nature. Some of the characteristics of blends discussed in the first part are tested on the basis of a corpus in order to reveal any discrepancies between English and French blends.
