National Assessments of Knowledge in Slovenia take place at the end of the 6th and the 9th grade. In grade 9, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport selects, in addition to the Slovene language and mathematics, also a third subject, in which students demonstrate their knowledge. In the years 2007, 2008, 2012, and 2014 physics was the selected third subject. Throughout all these years many teachers speculated that pupils are more successful (according to the average number of points achieved) in solving tasks with physical content of 9th grade in comparison with the tasks with the content of the 8th grade. This hypothesis is tested and confirmed in the thesis with the use of Excel program and a statistical t-test. The measured statistically significant difference in the effectiveness of task solving can be partially attributed to forgetting, which follows a simple rule: the more time passes from learning a certain (physics) topic, the less of the topic content one remembers.
