The first part of the thesis presents the railway track and the two railway track options. It also describes the rails in detail and the calculation of the stresses in the rails due to temperature changes.
It addresses the problems that are occurring in the rails as a result of increasingly hot summers, and how other countries are dealing with buckling of the rails. I have focused in particular on the measure of painting the rails white.
In the last part, I carried out an experiment comparing the temperature of white and unpainted rails. Based on the measured temperatures, I calculated the forces and stresses due to the temperature changes in the two rails and presented the final findings of the experiment.
