The short epyllion Battle of the Frogs and Mice, a parody of the heroic themes of Homer's epic poems, which still raises many questions among philologists, is one of the lesser-known ancient poems, yet over the last 150 years it was not overlooked by the Slovene intelligentsia. In Slovenia, there are four translations of this short epic poem: the first around 1870 by Janez Arlič, again in 1880 by Valentin Kermavner, for the third time by Aleš Ušeničnik in 1887, and finally in 1954 by Fran Bradač. This epyllion and some open questions related to it were also the central topic of the doctoral thesis submitted in 1896 by the classical philologist Josip Tominšek at the University of Graz. The article briefly presents the translations, Tominšek's thesis and some echoes of the epyllion in Slovenia.
