The paper focuses on different contextual views that lead into narratives on haunted houses. The study focuses on the background of context connected to these kinds of stories, which is always in relation to current social-historical situation. Buildings appearance, death, social norms, political changes – all of these factors can influence the emerging of ghost stories.
The aim of this master thesis is to define general characteristics of ghost houses narratives and also to contextualize folklore material of a specific building in Slovenia, on which is been said that it is haunted. Therefore, I have done ethnographic fieldwork in Rogaška Slatina, where I studied narratives about hauntings in Villa Demetrović.
