The purpose of this thesis paper is to design and produce a gift packaging for the wines made by the winery Vinarstvo Varga. Winemaking has been a Varga family craft for three generations. The family only grows white grape varieties. Their wines are sold to various restaurants and also to stores, which sell their mixed wines in combination with the mineral water Kraljevi vrelec, made by Radenska. As the two products are not meant for long-term sales, the Vargas are in need of different varieties of gift packaging. Through the use of gift packaging, they wish to gain new buyers as well as spread the name of their brand.
The theoretical part of this paper deals with defining the packaging, its uses and functions. Also described are the packaging materials, and special attention is paid to cardboard packaging and wine packaging. Next the winery Vinarstvo Varga is introduced, along with their reasons for needing new packaging. UV-curable ink inkjet printing is also described in detail, as we have overviewed its use on Slovenian and foreign markets.
In the experimental part we explain how we chose the appropriate materials, programs used for creating and designing the packaging, printing technology and the cut of materials. We then continue by describing the planning of the packaging, the incorporated elements and the final graphic design of the packaging. Lastly, we explain how we decided on the most appropriate format for a particular packaging and its most optimal area packing.
The result of the paper are the designs as well as the packaging itself, each used for a particular wine variety and appropriate for various occasions. The design varies based on the type and purpose of the packaging.
