The reactions between copper(2+) ions and 1-(pyridine-2-yl) thiourea were performed.
As source of copper(2+) ions the salts of copper were used: CuCl2, Cu(CH3COO)2·H2O, Cu(NO3)2·3H2O in CuSO4·5H2O. Each reaction was performed twice, once with added KSCN and once without. Methanol was used as the solvent. Isolated products were analysed with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and X-ray structural analysis.
According to the analysis performed I can conclude that the new copper coordination compound with the formula [CuL4]Cl, where L is 1-(pyridine-2-yl)thiourea was synthesized. Additionally, LH(SCN), elemental sulphur in forms of α-S8 and γ-S8, KNO3 and 2-amino-[1,2,4]thiadiazolo[2,3-α]pyridine-4-ium chloride were obtained as side products in some reactions.
