The master’s thesis will discuss the conceptualization of gender in The Curriculum for Preschools (1999); when thinking about education in public preschools, we cannot ignore the formal frame that objectively defines its work. Regarding the fact that preschool is one of the more important ideological state apparatus, we will first address the ideology and the aspects of how it is reflected inside the educational institutions. After that, we will take gender as well as its understanding into consideration, and show that this is largely socially-determined. Then we will discuss the formulations in The Curriculum for Preschools that involve gender and consider how gender is conceptualized inside the fundamental programme document that defines the educational work in preschools. We will continue with the presentation of the results of the research in which we have studied the opinions of high school students enrolled in the programme of preschool education at the Secondary Preschool Education, Gymnasium and Art Gymnasium Ljubljana. In the research, we were mostly interested in their opinions regarding the problems discussed in this thesis that are connected to preschool work. Besides their opinions, we also studied how well acquainted they are with the goals and activities that concern dealing with gender in the educational process in preschools and are included in The Curriculum for Preschools (1999).
