In the theoretical part I studied the theory of the Kaye effect about active learning and teaching. I prepared a lesson plan for a lesson during active learning for teaching about the Kaye phenomenon. In the empirical part of my thesis I analysed the data, acquired from the survey that was carried out before, during and after the lesson.
The main goal of the thesis was to prepare and carry out a lesson of active learning on the Kay effect. The lesson connected the theory of the Kay effect, which has been unknown to the students, during guided experimental work. During the experimental part the students filled in worksheets. Durnig experiments they have learnt new phenomena related to liquids, they encountered the concept of viscosity, they investigated how shampoo behaves when leaking on a smooth surface. They also measured the height of stream which Kay effect appears and observed how a jet of shampoo can also be an optical conductor if a laser is flashed into it. Their activity during the lesson and my observations were filled in observation sheet, designed specifically for the purpose of this research. Students filled in questionnaires before and after the lesson as well as after 9 months. I chose three students from each class who actively participated during the lesson; afterwards I carried out a half-structured interview with them.
