Abstract
Sledi podrobna analiza posameznih učbenikov Franca Močnika in Blaža Matka.

Title:
Evolution of mathematical notation
Abstract:
The master´s thesis is focused on questions related to the development of mathematical notation that includes a historical overview from Mesopotamian to contemporary mathematics. The first chapter describes the development of the numeral systems in general. Nowadays, the most established is the Hindu-Arabic numeral system, due to it´ s simplicity in usage. Described is the development of digits and a wide range of notations for mathematical operations. The chapter on mathematical notation is divided in to several subchapters which chronologically present the development of individual mathematical symbols. Examples show the signs for addition, subtraction, equality, inequality, multiplication, division, potentiation, unknowns, taking roots, integrals, and logarithms. Important steps in the development of notation are gathered in a separate table. In the last part of the thesis, two Slovenian mathematicians Franc Močnik and Blaž Matek, their lives, work, and contributions in the field of mathematics, are presented. Slovenian mathematicians did not really contribute to the development of mathematical notation, but they did reform the curriculum, and created Slovenian expressions for many mathematical concepts. The thesis ends with the analysis of individual textbooks written by Franc Močnik and Blaž Matek.
