This thesis describes the development of control and supervisory system for
a cooling station used in a food industry plant. We begin with the operation
presentation of our cooling station and its components, then we move on to the
supervisory SCADA system that was used and describe all its functionalities. The
control program for the station was carefully designed based on user requirements
and is being run by a programmable logic controller named PACSystems from
GE manufacturer. In the last part we explore physical background of cooling
towers, build a mathematical model of one and simulate water cooling with three
towers. Our aim is to compare two algorithms of cooling, find out which one is
more effective and economical at the same time and apply it to the real system.
