Introduction: Nursing care is a form of care work. Care for the sick people begins with susceptibility, attention and reactivity. In emergency departments, nurses daily face a large number of patients with different injuries and illnesses. Nurses experience crisis and stress situations, which can have physical and psychological consequences for them. Purpose: The purpose of the bachelor thesis is to emphasize the importance of supervision in coping, preventing and resolving crisis situations in emergency departments; to define the crisis and stress situation and their consequences and also to present emergency department and their specificity; the most important to present supervision and possibilities for her introduction to emergency department. Methods: In bachelor thesis, a descriptive work method was used, with a review of the literature. Literature, that was used, was from period since 2007 to 2017, because of important content were also used older articles from 1999, 2004 and 2006. Search of literature was going in databases of NCBI PubMed, SienceDirect and CINAHL and with the help of the reciprocal catalogue database COBIB.SI. In the literature review was used 47 articles. Discussion and conclusion: Crisis situation is an unwanted and unexpected event that causes an interruption in the normal process. In emergency department crisis situations are very frequent. There are sick people or victims of severe traumas, that can become violent because of changed state of health. The most exposed to violence in health care are nurses, which works in emergency departments. The consequence of crisis situations is stress and burnout. Supervision is important for control and prevention of stress. It is a preventive method for managing stress and preventing burnout. Regular supervision is important for the health of employees and their motivation. The mission of the leader is that he takes care of supervision. It was found that supervision is often not carried out because managers do not have sufficient knowledge about the importance of supervision.: When dealing with crisis situations, it is important, that nurses have support from superiors and co-workers. For efficiently dealing with crisis situations the most important thing is cooperation and confidence between co-workers, because without it, they cannot achieve effective teamwork, however, it is also important that nurses have support from the head leader. Support can be in emotional, financial or legal form. If nurses have some kind of mentioned support, they are more confident and successful.
