Master's dissertation investigates flooding problems of the Potočnica stream through the village of Stara vas near Krško, where flood plains have been urbanized due to a rapid spatial development in the past. Through the village a channel profile sufficient only for annual high waters was assured. In 2005, after large precipitation event, the insufficiency of the watercourse profile resulted in flooding of many residential and commercial buildings in the discussed area. The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses performed in the thesis were based on a digital relief model and with the use of topographic data derived from LIDAR scanning. For preparation and processing of various geographical data layers GIS tools were used. The hydrologic software HEC-HMC was used for a hydrologic analysis of the Potočnica stream catchment area. Based on the runoff hydrograph of flood water with return period of 100 years, the current flooding problems were analysed with the HEC-RAS software. In order to improve the flood protection of the settlement, in combination with the increase in the hydraulic conductivity of the existing Potočnica stream channel, the possibility of placing a dry reservoir was analyzed.
