Abstract

Title:Preparation of the patient for self-aplication of biological medicine : literature review
Abstract:
Introduction: Today, patients receive biological medicines in their home environment. Therefore, the patient's cooperation and him being informed are essential for treatment. In motivating a patient to participate in the treatment a nurse plays a key role by preparing the patient and by teaching him about self-application. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma work is to determine how a nurse can effective motivate the patient to self-administer the biological medicinal product. The emphasis is on the role of a nurse in teaching the patient and providing him with support, which are key factors in patient motivation. Methods: The used method is a review of professional and scientific literature in Slovene and English language, published between 2007 and 2017. Out of the 692 articles found, 8 articles are included for review. Results: The most common problem in introducing the self-application of a biological medicine are various fears and problems with the application technique, therefore it is crucial to motivate the patient to deal with these problems and fears. This is done by a nurse who performs various tasks in the process of introducing self-application, such as psychological preparation of the patient for self-application, taking initiative in the conversation and encouraging the patient to express questions, his fears and reservations, step-by-step learning with illustrating and explaining, providing assistance in all stages, evaluating and recording procedures. Discussion and conclusion: The central importance of the patient's motivation for self-application of a biological medicine are the introduction and education of the self-application by a nurse. The nurse can rely on implementation of self-application protocols (which, unfortunately, we do not have yet at the national level), and in particular sticks to a process approach.
