Abstract

Abstract:
In the theoretical part the Master's thesis summarizes the theory of polysemy by A. Vidovič Muha, supplemented with the findings of J. Snoj. The meanings of lexemes and two types of polysemy (directly and indirectly motivated polysemy) are presented in the thesis. The main emphasis is on the metaphorical semantic transfer. Because neosemantisms belong to the new Slovenian lexis, it is more specifically defined below where its definition and types are shown. The material for copying out the discussed meanings of lexemes are represented by three dictionaries (the old and new edition of the Academy Dictionary of the Slovene as the largest monolingual dictionaries of the Slovene literary language and The Dictionary of New Words where new lexis is gathered) that are presented in the first part of the thesis. The paper deals with the meaning of neosemantisms from The Dictionary of New Words in comparison to their meaning in the old edition of the Academy Dictionary of the Slovene. 50 lexemes that are marked with the mark SSKJ (meaning that they can be found in this dictionary but they acquired a new meaning over time) were chosen. These new meanings are analyzed on the basis of the theoretical part of the paper, followed by an analysis of the new meaning in the new Academy Dictionary of the Slovene 2. The Master's thesis thus highlights the semantic transfers of newer lexis or neosemantisms, compares new meanings with the meanings from The Academy Dictionary of the Slovene and shows how the new meanings or neosemantisms are included in The Academy Dictionary of the Slovene 2.
