The Master's degree presents ways of developing basic abilities when discussing poetry, prose and drama in the 6th-to-9th grades of elementary school. Such abilities are communicative competence that includes reading, literary competence, cultural competence, social competence, teaching learning, digital competence and the competence of cross-curricular integration. Reading competence is presented by four communicative skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. Literary competence is presented as the ability of word understanding, understanding by deducting and connecting, and the ability of critical creative reading. Because the basic abilities are developed within the different methods of discussing literature at lessons, three methods which are valued in Slovenia are presented: communicative method, the method of partial and integral school interpretation and creative problem-solving lessons. The ability of teaching learning is presented in the chapter about reading strategies, and a special chapter deals with questions and answers. The Master's degree is completed by the examples of lesson plans, where the developing of basic abilities at students is planned.
