This master thesis researches the modal analysis of structures with the use of open source code, which enable solving finite element method analysis. The main goal is to qualitatively and quantitatively compare selected open source code with the selected commercial programs and to compare different open source approaches. This work firstly presents the basics of linear theory of the finite elements method, and the entire process of solving problems with the finite element method: pre-processing, solving and post-processing. The open source approach was initially tested against theoretical test cases; finally, the open source approach was tested against commercial programs or real industrial test cases.
