Slovenia and the Netherlands vary in many things. Their history, development and educational system were put together very differently. The Netherlands made a step forward in 1917 when they made private and public education equally valued when Slovenia still followed and obeyed Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslavian authorities. Due to many facts from the past and the current situation, the educational system is different in regards to its organization as well as content. Nevertheless, in both curriculums there are numerous things that we can find in both Slovenian and Dutch curriculum for physical education in primary school.
In our research we have found that there are some differences between Slovenian and Dutch curriculum for physical education. There are differences in the number of lessons planned for physical education, the definition of the subject is quite different in each curriculum, but the greatest difference appears to be the structure of the curriculum. The Slovenian curriculum is a document that helps teachers plan lessons, while the Dutch curriculum is more or less a tool providing ideas of what to do at lessons of physical education. What we did not expect was the content, which is quite similar in both curriculums.
We also compared long-term effects of physical education on adults, and we have discovered a significant difference in the trend in views on sport in people’s spare time. We have made an interesting comparison on two fields: differences in curriculums and sport participation of adults while we have also emphasised the factors that influence the active life style.
