Abstract
Dobro zasnovana in ustrezno razvita prometna infrastruktura predstavlja enega izmed temeljev današnje družbe.

Title:A comparison of new asphalt pavement design methods in Slovenia, Germany and the U.S. : Master thesis
Abstract:
A well designed and appropriately developed traffic infrastructure is fundamental to today's society. A quality road network is most definitely a condition for coordinated regional development, creating the best options for an efficient course of economic activities and indirectly for populating appropriate areas of the country. Unfortunately, the Slovenian road network is not in an enviably good state and simultaneously the country cannot ensure enough of its own assets to provide sufficient and appropriate managing. The serviceability and lifetime of a road in a great manner depends on the appropriate pavement structure that is why it is of a great importance that, when building a road, a lot of concern is put into the planning and design of the pavement structure. It, of course, has to be optimally designed and must have the ability to bear the anticipated traffic loading. The master thesis deals with the question whether the design method of new asphalt pavement structures used in Slovenia is the most appropriate in terms of thicknesses of the pavement structure. For that purpose, a design method according to regulations in Slovenian technical specifications TSC 06.520 (Design procedure for new asphalt pavement structures) is introduced. Two other asphalt pavement structures design methods are studied in detail namely from the German RStO 12 (Richtlinien für die Standardisierung des Oberbaus von Verkehrsflächen) and the U.S. AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures. In addition to comparison of theoretical basis there were also designed pavement structures for some typical examples of traffic loadings according to every discussed method. A comparison of the results of design procedure led to a conclusion that asphalt pavement structures in Slovenia are, compared to the ones designed according to RStO 12 guidelines and AASHTO design guide, oversized therefore a change of current design method or a completion of technical specifications would be reasonable.
