In the diploma thesis, the research work on scanners is being presented. It featu-res the theoretical and experimental part of digitalizated notes, where highlig-hters of texts are used.
In the theoretical part, the evolution and function of scanners are presented, followed by the progress and use of highlighting texts and also fluorescence; as the phenomenon directly linked to highlighters.
In the experimental part of diploma paper, scanning samples of highlighted texts with various scanners has been conducted with their own distinguished capture technologies. On the captured sample, which most closely coincided with the authentic sample, CIELAB values was defined and compared to measured valu-es.
The results have shown the vast importance of judicious reasoning when choo-sing the colour of highlighters.
In cases of scanning document marked with the highlighters, the scanners with CCD detectors should be used. Regardless of all plausible difficulties, the use of highlighters is strongly recommended if they serve their genuine purpose: emp-hasis of certain words, sentences and other parts of the document.
