Translating expressive sentences, which are mostly part of author metaphors, is a complex process, which requires, not only excellent language proficiency, but also great imagination of the translator. Translations should, in best case, have a similar impact on their reader, as the original work on the native one. The same goes for the metaphors and more complicated phrases on the micro level. In the theoretical part of our work, we defined the concepts of the terms expressiveness and expressivity and the term metaphor itself. Based on the translation theory we have described different translation methods and translation strategies, with the help of historical facts. In the practical part of our work, we presented different metaphors, classified them by the translation strategy used, interpreted their meaning and then, added Slovakian or Polish translations with corresponding comment. We have focused on the diversity of translation strategies and the resourcefulness of the translators (Anežka Kočalková and Joanna Pomorska), that are clearly visible in their translations (Polárna žiara in Widziałem ją tej nocy).
