Abstract
Nove oblike trženja usmerjajo ljudi v trošenje in hkrati odmetavanje odvečnega.

Title:Fair business in the modern global market economy based on the doctrine of the Church
Abstract:
Extraordinarily rapid progress in the technical sciences, biomedicine, pharmacology, financial and banking instruments, corporate networking and consumerism is a new challenge that impels Christians to seek answers in order to confront it. The Christian entrepreneur and businessman in particular is wondering how to conduct business honestly. The Social Teaching of the Church recapitulates Christian social ethics and helps Christians with direction for their engagement in society. In this work we have found that the Church has been slow in the formulation of answers to the challenges posed by the rapid globalization and consumerism. Nevertheless, it has gradually become aware that Christians lack knowledge and awareness in the areas mentioned above. The publication of documents that elucidate the issue of honesty in globalization has facilitated the search of solutions and fostered discussions with regard to the issue of honest conduct of business, which in turn promotes deeper reflection that we Christians need in order to confront modern challenges. The process of globalization is linked to individualism, consumerism, hedonism and relativism. New marketing strategies induce many people into buying sprees and throwing away of the outdated and unfashionable. The slogan, “what is new is good and needed; what is old is for the dump” is also infecting human relations and relations between generations. In business and enterprise, the global chase after profits is similarly blinding one’s view of human relations and human dignity. We have found that the room for the development of the basic virtues, let alone the Christian virtues, is severely restricted in the current globalized environment. Christians in the world of business and economy should be critical of as well as receptive to the spirit of the times. We have shown that Christian ethics is demanding and is thus often unattractive and incomprehensible to the modern man. However, we argue it is Christian ethics that offers an excellent alternative to the modern global economic system. Christian ethics incorporated into the business world and economic currents enables the Christian to offer the world something different. We have shown that truly virtuous management of firms can bring added quality to the relations between employees, different firms, business partners and in society. The Christian who leads a virtuous life at all levels brings new hope and raises human dignity to the point where a person is set free of unhealthy attachments and addictions. Getting out and above globalized consumerist individualism must be for the Christian a challenge and an act of virtue; in order to meet this challenge, honest conduct of business is indeed worth the effort and sacrifice.
