The purpose of this thesis is to research reception of ancient literature in the literature lessons in the gymnasium. Thesis illustrates to what extent is ancient literature included in the updated curriculum for Slovenian in gymnasium (2008) and in the teaching materials intended for learning and teaching literature in gymnasium. The paper also presents a critical view of the influences of ancient literature in the later world and Slovenian literature in gymnasium, where are also analysed the information and didactic value of educational materials (Žbogar, 2000). In the second part of the thesis are shown results of student knowledge about ancient literature and their competence of reading reception of ancient literature and later world and Slovenian literature with ancient motifs. The task contains empirical and interpretative analysis of survey questionnaire for students. The purpose of the thesis are students view and relation to the ancient literature, as well as view and relation to the different methods of teaching and learning the ancient literature in the gymnasium.
