The master’s thesis deals with four story steel frames with staggered floor construction designed for seismic action. Steel frames are designed according to different approaches. Two frames are designed according for DCM with smaller modifications to rules given in SIST EN 1998-1. Three frames are designed according for DCH. All frames are modeled in the SIMULIA Abaqus FEA program. The models are combination of linear beam and shell finite elements. The geometric and material nonlinearity were taken into consideration. The models are subjected to pushover N2 analysis and dynamic nonlinear analysis with three different ground motions. The N2 method was used to estimate the expected plastic mechanisms and the distribution of damage and to revise the behaviour factor. The results of dynamic analysis were used to compare equivalent plastic strain, maximum displacements of frames, plastic dissipation energy, and the distribution of damage.
