The work commences by presenting Slovenian publishing, while it has been still a part of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It focuses on the time just after World War II untill the year 1991, when Slovenia had declared its independence. In one, somewhat shorter chapter transition and privatization are explained. In the next one, the publishing in independent Slovenia is illuminated, mostly through publishing organizations. Research part elaborates on getting a list of publishers, who had existed at that time: as our basis we then take the magazine Knjiga and it's review of the years 1989, 1990 and 1991. Amongst those, who were found in all three years, 18 of them were selected and arranged in seven categories: depends on the sort of transition they have undergone (whether they had stop functioning all together, changing of it's title or transformation in other forms of business enterprises: d. o. o. and in d. d.) or in what form they were at that time (whether in a form of institute, society or independent collection). In the end a thorough evaluation of transition of Slovenian publishers is achieved and their success in new market conditions are met with my own conclusion of all the above mentioned in this abstract.
