The present diploma thesis is proposed to teachers of technology and physics, pupils of low-secondary schools, amateur electronics lovers and others interested in the subject area. The thesis gives us an insight into the basic knowledge needed for teaching the content related to light emitting diodes (for example, circuits with a light-emitting diode).
In the thesis, the fundamentals of light-emitting diodes are presented at first. What is their structure, the possible colors, what affects the different colors of the light-emitting diodes, how they work, how to properly bind them to the electric circuit, how LED lights are made from light-emitting diodes, etc. Some comparisons with the filament lamp are presented as well, so that we can understand the differences between the structure and the operation of the light emitting diodes and the filament lamp. An example of the project is also given, through which pupils independently come to the findings about the properties of the light-emitting diodes and filament lamps. Energy saving lamps in diploma work are not covered because they are not suitable for conducting experiments in elementary school.
