Police work represents one of the hardest professions in the modern world; therefore, it is very important on which level of physical state the police officers are. The primary purpose of the study was to determine whether the preparedness of the selected police squad is at an appropriate level to perform specific tasks for which the muscle power, muscle endurance in force and muscle relationship are important. The results of each attribute were compared with the established clinical norms for adults.
The sample included 35 members of the selected police squat with average age of 46 years and right hand-dominance. The subjects were healthy, with no acute pain in their hands and palms and were recruited into the specialized police unit based on various tests, work assessment and psychophysical abilities. The measurement was carried out with the use of the digital handheld dynamometer Noraxon. The analysis of data was processed with the help of Microsoft Office Excel 2013 and SPSS software.
Based on the results and comparative analysis, it can be established that the level of preparedness of our police squat is above average. Our sample has achieved a higher maximum force of grip strength, as well as a smaller percentage of strength difference between right and left arm compared to the clinical norms in the literature. The analysis also confirmed our subjects to have the similar muscle endurance in force in both arms. As there are no studies in the professional literature that analyse the muscle endurance in force based on the grip strength over a period of 20 seconds, we could not evaluate the results of our sample in relation to normative data. In this regard further research is needed.
