Abstract

Title:Tool life of cutting tools with different surface coating in machining of tool steel in soft state
Abstract:
This thesis describes the research work necessary for the development of a milling cutter, intended for milling tool steel in soft state. It was crucial to select a type of material most suitable for the tool and to consider the geometry as well as the manner in which to prepare the cutting edge. Finally it was imperative to choose the most suitable surface protective coating, which would offer the best wear resistance. The introductory chapter of the master’s thesis presents the theoretical foundations behind the problem. In continuation, all the steps of the practical research work are presented. The wear on the milling cutters was measured on the free surface of the blade in pre-determined time intervals. In this way, we demonstrated the course of wear on the free tool surface depending on time. Based on tool wear the most appropriate surface protective coating was selected.
