The goal of the masters’ thesis was the development and design of a mobile application for photo equipment exchange based on the principles of sharing economy. The idea was to supply photographers with expensive equipment, and enable maintenance to rent equipment and make a profit, or borrow equipment from other users and thus reduce costs of photography. We conducted a market analysis and a poll among the target group to confirm that there is a need for photo equipment exchange on the market. Based on the results of the poll, personas, wireframe, site schematics and design of application were made with an emphasis on user interface and user experience interaction. An interactive PDF was made and application with limited capabilities was used for testing on a sample of ten people.
Based on the results of our research, 77 % of photographers think there is a need for photo equipment exchange and further 60 % think that they would use a mobile application. The vast majority of the photographers think that rental services should be covered by insurance that would be an integral part of the application, as that would mean fewer risks and more safety for the users.
Testing the application with finished design and user interface showed that it is compliant with the expectations of end users. The users commented the user experience and had little to no issues with the designed task. Overall, we can conclude that the process of development of the mobile application for photo equipment exchange was successful.
