The notebook is an educational tool that is present in all levels of education. In the first grade of elementary school children become familiar with a new environment, more advanced content, and the use of large amounts of notebooks, workbooks and textbooks for different subjects, which load their school bags.
From the research of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and Society IndiJanez it was established that children wear overweight school bags, which endangers their health. Reducing the weight of school bags would be possible with the digitization of textbooks and workbooks, thereby there are engaged in Slovenia for several years. Thus, between 2011 and 2015 Slovenia implemented two projects related to the digitization of printed content: E-textbook project and the project E-school bag. Despite the digitization of learning content, printed notebook can not be replaced by digital notebooks, as this would contribute to the curtailment of children's motor skills, which are crucial in the first three years of education.
With the aim of simplifying the use of notebooks and a more modern graphic design, in 2015 was developed the prototype of a multi subject notebook didactic content for the first grade of primary school. Through oral, written and online interviewing of children, teachers and parents have been identified the required alterations and additions for the production of the pilot multi subject notebook, whose cohesive thread are sea animals, which pupils themselves have chosen from various sets of drawings. The pilot multi subject notebook includes both blank sheets of paper (striped, grid and ) for three different subjects as well as didactic assignments, which help to make learning easier and more interesting. The pilot multi subject notebook has been in use in the school year 2016/2017 in the first grade of primary school Franca Rozmana Staneta. The results show that the inclusion of a multi subject notebook at the classroom is feasible, usable and accepted by both teachers as well as parents and children.
