The purpose of this diploma thesis is to establish the feature of football game in the attacking and defending phase in teams of Bayern München and Juventus in UEFA Champions League in the season 2015/2016, and then compare individual technical and tactical elements of football match between them.
The analysis of both matches in the round of 16 of UEFA Champions League is based on the recordings of matches. Nineteen main variables which had been determined before the beginning of analysis were separated according to attacking and defending phase. Ten main variables were observed in the attacking phase and nine in the defending phase. The data were statistically analysed and compared separately for each match and overtimes performed on the second match. The data were then combined and later used for testing hypotheses.
It was found out that teams made use of a totally different style of playing. Juventus used the closed style of game which means that the defence was set deep on its half. They tried to shoot on the goal with fast and continuous attacks and counterattacks while Bayern München made use of the open style of game with slow and continuous attacks. Its defence was set very high and they tried to intercept opponents’ attack right after the loss of the ball. Both goalkeepers mostly used short passes (Juventus: 32, Bayern: 44), at the beginning of the attack. Both teams were unified as far as the attack is concerned. Their attacks were evenly performed over the middle of the field (Juventus: 74, Bayern: 109) as well as over the wing positions (Juventus: 83, Bayern: 110). The difference between teams was seen in passes, because the German team (1.618) had many more passes than the Italian one (582). Their performance was also more accurate. Bayern had many short passes (1.123) while Juventus had more medium long passes (118) and long passes (96). Germans had more chances on shooting the goal (Juventus: 28, Bayern: 40), but they were not as accurate as their Italian opponent. Juventus showed its skills mostly at individual duels (Juventus: 174, Bayern: 136), because they were better in duels with leg or body (Juvetnus: 100, Bayern 88) and also in duels with head (Juventus:74, Bayern:48). Bavarians predominated in other segments of the game (number of attacks, number of passes, shoots on goal, opportunity for scoring goal, technical errors, numbers of corners, possesion).
