The purpose of this Bachelor’s Thesis is to present a customized exercise program for pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). If the pregnant woman feels well, is relaxed and has no contraindications, exercise during pregnancy should be encouraged. Physical activity during pregnancy is an appropriate alternative treatment for GDM, relaxation and preparation for delivery.
After reviewing domestic and foreign literature, we described general changes in pregnancy. We have identified diabetes, types, formation and treatment. We have described GDM, which affects more women every year. Treatment of GDM can be pharmacological by injection of insulin or non-pharmacological, with adequate diets and appropriate physical activity. We studied the impact of exercise on GDM and discovered that exercise reduces the need for insulin. Sport practice also acts as a preventive agent against GDM in pregnant women with a high degree of risk.
In the theoretical part we also included recommendations for the physical activity of pregnant women, and highlighted the dangers and contraindications. We have described the intensity and type of activities that are suitable for pregnant women. The choice of activity depends on physical fitness and pre-pregnancy activity. We also presented the structure of a training unit that is adapted to pregnant women. In the following, we have developed a program of sports exercises that is suitable for pregnant women who do not have contraindications and who have been physically active from time to time prior to conception. We made the practice with elastic and big ball. The gadgets are safe and affordable for home workout. To facilitate the performance and understanding of exercises, we equip them with pictures.
