Thesis presents results of the investigation in which the influence of chemical additives to the sedimentation of marine clay was studied. We studied the influence of coagulants and flocculants to the sedimentation processes and the mechanical properties of sediments.
The basic material used in the research was the suspension of the dredged marine sediment from the port of Koper. One type of organic coagulant and two types of organic flocculants were added to suspension in different proportions.
The research was divided in two phases. In the first phase we determined the effectiveness and the optimal addition of chemicals. In the second phase we investigated the suspension behavior and the physical properties of sediments, like water content, bulk density, undrained shear strength, compressibility etc. At the end, we compare the results on treated and untreated materials.
