"Child sexual abuse is linked not only to psychological trauma but to a potential trend of
substance abuse, mental health issues, and crime. In the short-term, sexual abuse destroys the
innocence of childhood; for the long-term, it wreaks havoc on a potentially productive and
happy adulthood. Reporting sexual abuse early on will give a child a better chance at healing«
(Pleines, 2009, page 56).
For my thesis I researched on sexual abuse on children. I set my goal to discover everything I
could about the legal side of this issue. I focused on the domestic violence law and Slovenian
rule books for educational establishments. I summarized the convention of children's rights
and studied the punishments in the penal code for this illegal act. I was interested in the legal
proceedings and its process and the influence on the victim and the surroundings. In the
empirical part I am focusing on the legal proceedings, I searched for the results of studies,
how technology influences on the problem, the status quo of public awareness and the
function of kindergartens and the teachers therein. In the theoretical part I focused on the
functions and duties of kindergartens teachers. This includes recognition of sex offenses, what
are the tasks/functions of prevention and how to protect a child after a sex offense/sexual
abuse, as well as a description of the consequences on a child, who has been sexually abused.
I also recapped the CAP program, whose goal is to make children able to defend themselves
from violence and abuse.
