Waste represents a major problem in today's time, so it is first of all necessary to ensure their reduction. Among other things, the concern for waste management is the responsibility of each municipality, which has to deal with the problem by choosing the right way to provide waste collection, treatment and disposal services in the form of a local commercial public service. Municipalities can choose between several modes, which will be further explored and compared in this diploma thesis.
The purpose of the diploma thesis is to define and explain the key advantages and disadvantages of individual ways of providing local public services in the field of waste management and to present them to the municipalities and to the providers themselves.
The aim of the diploma thesis is to find out the differences in the ways of providing services in the field of waste management and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of the individual mode in general and in the concrete case of Slovenian municipalities.
The theoretical part of the diploma thesis was made by using descriptive methods based on secondary sources. In the framework of the empirical part, a case study was prepared on the case of two municipalities, where differences, advantages and disadvantages were identified through the questionnaire as well as the ways of providing services in the field of waste management.
On the basis of the literature and case study, it was found that by providing public services through municipal concessions, they achieved greater efficiency than in the form of a public utility unit. On the same basis, it was found that the concessionary public service brings several advantages as a public utility unit.
