Background: Osteoarthritis of the hip is characterised by structural and functional failure of the hip joint. It results in pain, globally reduced hip range of motion and mobility, altered gait, problems in balance and weakness of the surrounding musculature. The conservative treatment puts in the foreground manual and exercise therapy. Purpose: The purpose of this dissertation was to present effects of manual therapy and/or exercise therapy in osteoarthritis of the hip. Methods: The literature review was obtained trough PEDro, PubMed, Cochrane library databases and textbooks. The literature search was
limited to Slovene and English language and to publications issued on and after 2004. Results: The criteria set-up were met by 13 publications issued between 2004 and 2016,
eight of which analysed prosperity of manual and/or exercise therapy, one examined comparison of those two types of interventions, three examined the effects on function and one presented current state of the evidence. Both types of intervention are due to reduction
in pain and increased range of motion. Discussion and conclusion: An individually role in effects of manual and exercise therapy is hard to delimit, it seems they both have evidence based effects on improvement in function in hip osteoarthritis.
