Abstract

Title:Learning nursing diagnoses with information and communication technology : literature review with practical example
Abstract:
Introduction: In the period of technological progress, information and communication technology is increasingly used also in health care education. Education topics are therefore presented using videos, films, or even games. One of the easiest and cheapest methods for demonstration of procedures is animation, which can also be used in consolidation of knowledge. Purpose: To present the possible ways of learning nursing diagnoses using software, and to analyse the data of the existing surveys in the field of using information and communication technology in teaching of health care, as well as to create animation for students of health care. Methods: We used a descriptive method with a systematic overview of Slovenian and English literature that was published from 2011 to 2016. 8 articles were included. With the help of the Moovly software platform, which is available as a free cloud-based service for designing multimedia contents – animated videos, infographics, and presentations – animation was created. Results: Modern approach makes new education topics more interesting, students are more autonomous in their work and also more motivated. Students learn through games, simulations, and electronic documentation for educational purposes. In addition, more learning styles are satisfied, since students obtain information in auditory, visual, and kinaesthetic manner. We made an animation, through which we demonstrated theoretical discussion of nursing diagnoses and a practical example. Discussion and conclusion: There are few articles discussing the field of teaching nursing diagnoses using information and communication technology, also samples of participants in surveys are small. However, teachers are increasingly innovative in their work; they always look for new ways of explaining the topics with the aim to stir more interest in students.
