Abstract
Uporabili smo deskriptivno in kavzalno eksperimentalno metodo raziskovanja.

Title:Social game and speaking skills of the first grade students of primary school
Abstract:
Vocabulary learning is a lifelong process and the period of schooling is one of its intensive phases. Various studies confirm the importance of developing the vocabulary of first grade students of primary school, since their vocabulary determines the subsequent level of their reading skills. This master thesis examines whether using social table games during the Slovene language lessons can have effect on vocabulary learning and thus on the development of first graders’ speaking skills. The introductory part sets out the theoretical backgrounds which are explained by an overview of various national and foreign researches and organised into seven chapters related to communication skills, vocabulary, social games, listening, speaking and motivation. This is followed by a survey which was conducted in four first grades in two primary schools in the town. The initial and final tests of vocabulary size were performed on a sample of 62 pupils of which 31 boys and 31 girls aged between 6 and 8 years. We used descriptive and causal experimental research methods. The data obtained are quantitative and qualitative. The findings of the surveyed sample showed that playing social games had positive effects on the vocabulary size of boys as well as of girls. All pupils have improved their vocabulary range regardless of their period of attending preschool institutions and of frequency of playing social games at home prior to the survey. The survey confirms the importance of social games as motivation in learning and expanding vocabulary.
