All industries are going through fundamental changes, characterised by new business models, rifts between industry leaders and transformation of production, consumption, transport and supply systems. Virtual reality is a growing technology, although the better and more technologically advanced products are not yet widely available. Virtual reality allows us to move into the digital world, while augmented reality merges the digital world with the reality. In this day and age, it makes sense to also include new approaches of virtual and augmented reality in the wood industry. The thesis presents the development of a mobile application for displaying products in a real environment, as well as the history of virtual and augmented reality and their effect on the user. The use of augmented reality is thoroughly analysed, and practical examples are provided to illustrate the existing solutions and the possibilities of using virtual and augmented reality in the wood industry. A mobile application ARWood for Android smartphones was produced for this purpose.
