Abstract

Title:Postpartum mental disorders and different help forms in Slovenia
Abstract:
This master's thesis discusses the topic of postpartum distress and the types of help that are available in Slovenia. The theoretical section begins by briefly describing the mental health of pregnant women, after which it describes the postpartum period and the distress that may occur in that period (postpartum blues, postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis and postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder). It also presents the risk factors for the onset of PD, and how it affects the child and the mother’s relationship with her partner. The second part of the theoretical section is dedicated to the identification and treatment of PD. It presents the methods for identifying and treating PD, which is followed by a description of the types of help that exist in Slovenia, and a brief overview of how this problem is being tackled throughout the world. The empirical section is based on qualitative research, which presents the results of the analysis of interviews conducted with six mothers. The purpose of the research is to offer a few suggestions, based on the conducted interviews and the review of existing literature, as to how we could help mothers in Slovenia who are experiencing distress in the postpartum period.
