It is difficult to find the right balance between work and family in these days. Young people don’t always know whether to start a family first, or establish a professional career.
The purpose of this diploma work is to find out how nurses at the Centre for the Treatment of children’s diseases in Šentvid pri Stični manage to find balance between family and work.
The research has been done using a method of survey. According to the survey, female and male nurses have answered some questions about children, family, managing children’s activities, sharing household chores and balancing work and family.
It has been found out that most of the work regarding the family and household chores is equally divided among the couple, which is also an important influence on reducing the stress when finding the right balance between work and family. Most of the nurses spend their time with their families in the afternoon or during the weekend, however, those working the night shift have less time for their families. Nurses younger than 35 are more successful in balancing work and home life, but they can also become very tired when their work becomes more demanding.
We could easily balance work and home life if the company or hospital receives the Family – Friendly Company certificate. Measures are taken especially for employees with children so that companies can adapt and prepare different activities which would improve their lives.
