Abstract

Title:INJURIES OF FREE LIVING ANIMALS RELATED TO AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION
Abstract:
Most common free-living animals present on agricultural areas are: deer, stag, brown hare, pheasant and partridge. The goal of the diploma is to find out the hunters’ point of view on how often free living animals get injured as a consequence of agricultural work, in the region of Dolenjska, Notranjska and Central Slovenia, which agricultural work is the main reason for these injuries, what kind of animals are most often affected, and how these injuries, in the largest scale possible, could be prevented and reduced. Based on answers, gathered by survey among hunters, conclusions can be made, that injuries are happening and that species present in larger number on agricultural areas are the ones most often affected. The analysis of the research has shown most affected species are deer and brown hare. Mowing is definitely the main reason for injuries, as mowers with great speed of its blades harm young deer, which instinctively hide to the ground. Chemical means for pest control containing harmful substances for animals and the environment need to be highlighted. Hunters opinion is, these injuries could be most effectively reduced by placing animal deterrent devices on mowers, by mowing properly from inside towards outside and by mowing in later times. Concerning use of phytopharmaceutical means, results could be achieved by greater awareness of more nature friendly ways of farming.
