On September 11, 2001 took place the biggest terrorist attacks in the world that have completely changed our views on terrorism. On the day of the events, all TV channels were flooded with videos of planes crashing into the WTC and Pentagon in USA. Terrorist group Al-Qaeda with their boss Osama Bin Laden have been accused for the attacks. The attacks have caused thousands of deaths and huge financial damage, which was a very big shock for the US. It was expected that US as a world superpower is going to react sharply and exactly this has happened. Shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, President Bush declared a war on terrorism, which they started in Afghanistan and later in Iraq. The war on terrorism then has opened a lot of questions, which indicate that the terrorist attacks could have been carried out by the US alone that could helped them to reach their goals in the Middle East.
The purpose of the thesis is to find out what terrorism really is and what have the 9/11 terrorist attacks meant to the US. The aim of the thesis is to find out why did the 9/11 attacks happen and how did the US conduct the war on terrorism. In order to achieve the set goals I will use the descriptive and historical method of work. With this thesis, I want to show that terrorism is not carried out just as a demonstration or showing power but it is happening due to the achievement of various political objectives.
