ZDA V BOJU PROTI TERORIZMU NA PRIMERU 11. SEPTEMBRA 2001

11. septembra 2001 so se zgodili največji teroristični napadi na svetu, ki so v celoti spremenili pogled na terorizem. Na dan dogodkov so bili vsi televizijski programi preplavljeni s posnetki trčenja letal v Svetovni trgovinski center in obrambno ministrstvo Pentagon v Združenih državah Amerike (v nadaljevanju ZDA). Za napade je bila obtožena teroristična skupina Al Kaida z Osamo bin Ladnom na čelu. Napadi so zahtevali več tisoč smrtnih žrtev in povzročili veliko finančno škodo, kar je bil zelo velik šok za ZDA. Od ZDA kot svetovne velesile je bilo pričakovati, da se bodo na dogodke 11. septembra ostro odzvale, kar se je tudi zgodilo. Kmalu po terorističnih napadih 11. septembra je predsednik Bush razglasil vojno proti terorizmu, ki so jo začele ZDA v Afganistanu, nato pa še v Iraku. Vojna proti terorizmu pa je odprla veliko vprašanj, ki nakazujejo na to, da so teroristične napade morda izvedle ZDA same z namenom uveljaviti svoje cilje na Bližnjem vzhodu. Namen diplomskega dela je ugotoviti, kaj v resnici je terorizem in kaj so pomenili teroristični napadi 11. septembra za ZDA. Cilj diplomskega dela je ugotoviti, zakaj so se zgodili teroristični napadi 11. septembra 2001 in kako so ZDA izvedle vojno proti terorizmu. Za dosego zastavljenih ciljev v diplomskem delu uporabim deskriptivno metodo dela in zgodovinsko metodo dela. V diplomskem delu želim prikazati, da se terorizem ne izvaja zgolj kot maščevanje ali izkazovanje moči, ampak predvsem zaradi doseganja različnih političnih ciljev.

Abstract

On September 11, 2001 took place the biggest terrorist attacks in the world that have completely changed our views on terrorism. On the day of the events, all TV channels were flooded with videos of planes crashing into the WTC and Pentagon in USA. Terrorist group Al-Qaeda with their boss Osama Bin Laden have been accused for the attacks. The attacks have caused thousands of deaths and huge financial damage, which was a very big shock for the US. It was expected that US as a world superpower is going to react sharply and exactly this has happened. Shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, President Bush declared a war on terrorism, which they started in Afghanistan and later in Iraq. The war on terrorism then has opened a lot of questions, which indicate that the terrorist attacks could have been carried out by the US alone that could helped them to reach their goals in the Middle East. The purpose of the thesis is to find out what terrorism really is and what have the 9/11 terrorist attacks meant to the US. The aim of the thesis is to find out why did the 9/11 attacks happen and how did the US conduct the war on terrorism. In order to achieve the set goals I will use the descriptive and historical method of work. With this thesis, I want to show that terrorism is not carried out just as a demonstration or showing power but it is happening due to the achievement of various political objectives.
