The master thesis addresses the park at the former tuberculosis sanatorium in Ankaran. It was formed as a health park for patients, suffering from pulmonary disease. Since then the buildings within it also had a function of a sanatorium, a military hospital and Hospital Ankaran. Today the Ministry of Defence uses the buildings in the south and the northern part is a housing estate. The aim of this work was to determine the possibility of park’s revitalization by integrating its cultural and natural heritage, dendrological values, and modern needs of the public. Literature about the historic development of the park and modern trends of historic parks transformations was studied. The park inventory and analyses of infrastructure and vegetation were carried out. In the future, expansions of residential neighborhoods in the municipality of Ankaran and the port of Koper will progressively limit the park, which could diminish the importance of the park. The proposal offers a solution, which emphasizes historical significance of the park and adds a modern function and program. It presents ways for preserving this important park area, highlighting its special ambience with tall, mature trees, which have an impact on improving the environment.
