Abstract

Title:Handling women from another cultural backgrounds at the time of pregnancy and childbirth
Abstract:
Introduction: Every individual lives in »harmony« with its own culture, which he learns or develops under the influence of older generations. It is important to recognise that the culture results of many factors, which are forming it as a whole. For the majority of population the culture of a single community represents the most common version of cultural diversity. Cultural background of pregnant women makes her so much more vunerable in an environment where there are different beliefs and practices. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to identify how midwives in the everyday work experience cultural diversity and gain insight into their feelings, which accompany them when meeting with a foreign culture. Methods of work: Descriptive academic method of work was used. A search of the literature has covered the domestic and foreign secondary sources obtained by scanning databases such as Pubmed, Cochrane, Medline, Dikul, ScienceDirect. Qualitative survey followed which was carried out with the help of interview as the research instrument. Results: After analyzing the text, the author got 4 main categories: vulnerability of women, the midwife as a supporter of female, inventiveness and communication, and from theory to practice. Discussion and conclusion: Cultural diversity in midwifery is not reprezented well enough. There should be more training for students and already working midwives to achieve better treatment of pregnant women. This would reduce the uncertainty and discomfort among students and the employees and improve the final satisfaction of women from another cultural background with treatement that was given to them.
