Introduction: Human hands are one of the most complicated mechanism. With our hands we communicate and do daily activities. In case of injury, congenital anomalies or systemic diseases, total or partial amputation of one or more fingers is needed. Suspensions used for total and partial finger prosthesis are vacuum suspension, adhesive suspension, bone-anchored implant suspension, glove type suspension and suspension with silicone ring attached on other fingers. Modifications of existing suspensions are used. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to present suspensions for total and partial finger prosthesis and their usefulness and effectiveness. The aim is also to determine which suspension is the most usable. Methods: We used the descriptive method of work with a literature review. The comparative method was used to compare data from collected articles. Results: For purpose of this research we used 33 articles. Vacuum suspension is the most usable suspension however there are least informations about its effectiveness. Although technology is developing, authors of articles do not describe any new suspension. As new suspension they are mentioning just adjustments of existing suspensions. Bone-anchored implant suspension is described as the newest. This suspension is the most invasive. Because of the potential complications authors do not agree about its negative and positive effects. Suspension with silicone ring attached on other fingers and glove type suspension are the less used suspensions. They did not find any suitable informations about them, so we do not know what are their positive and negative effects. Discussion and conclusion: Key role for successful use of prosthesis for total and partial finger amputations is suitable choice of suspension. There are no criteria for choosing the right suspension. It would be meaningful to determine standard procedures and criteria with which the effectiveness of suspension can be measured. In this way we would get objective and credible informations which could improve with better use of prosthesis, patients satisfaction and choosing the right suspension would be easier.
