In our thesis sensorimotor integration in children with underdeveloped structure of the corpus callosum and deletion of chromosome 1q43 is discussed. This topic is relatively poorly researched both in Slovenia as well as worldwide, but this has been changing due to expanding need for research and provision of appropriate assistance to persons with this disorder.
In the thesis sensorimotor skills were presented as skills that help an individual to get to know the surroundings, to cope with everyday challenges and also help him generally in everyday life. Other sensorical disorders, which also significantly affect daily life, are presented as well. In the empirical part, an additional structure and disorder of corpus callosum and deletion of chromosome 1q43 are presented.
The purpose of the research was to assess sensorimotor integration, responses to various stimuli in a 6 -year-old child with the above mentioned disorder. In the empirical part, a case study of 6-year-old girl, who was diagnosed with undeveloped structure of the corpus callomus at birth and subsequently with the deletion on chromosome 1q43, is presented. A variety of sensorimotor exercises perception of her own body, balance, haptic, visual and taste perception are featured. Most of these exercises have been executed in three meetings in order to get the most realistic result. One exercise could not have been executed in all of the meetings, due to a specific situation.
We found out that the child with underdeveloped structure of the corpus callosum and deletion of chromosome 1q43 has a different perception of incentives and is able to distinguish different stimuli.
The strength of the response depends on the intensity of the stimulation and the feeling of safety and satisfaction.
