The thesis addresses public firefighting monuments with sculptural elements that can be found in Slovenia. It's divided into two parts: art-theoretical and practical.
The art-theoretical part explains the concept of monuments and what the notion defines. It further clarifies the words sculptural monument, counter-monument, funeral monument, monumental alley and it explains, what it takes to create a quality monument. I documented public sculptural firefighting monuments in Slovenia. The aim of the thesis was to find out, if there is a high-quality firefighers monument with sculptural elements included. I also included a short history and development of fire brigades in Slovenia and the legend of St. Florian, their patron. At the end I incorporated some foreign examples of high quality fire service monuments for comparisson.
In the second part I intruduce my own work – monument drafts made in clay that were designed based on the knowledge I got through the art-theoretical part.
